The Hype of Fashion Week Expires?

New York Fashion Week will be sadly bereft of its regularly packed party schedule. Marc Jacobs has canceled his postshow party, one of the most anticipated of the season. Calvin Klein has nixed its usual postshow dinner or party. Reasons for the cancellations are unspecified, but we all probably have a good guess as to why. Earlier this week, we learned Alexander Wang would forgo his typically sweaty night of revelry, not because of the economy, a spokeswoman said, but to bring focus back to the clothes.

So where will Fashion Week attendees show off their evening harem pants and drink away the immense stress brought on by sitting and looking at fabulous clothes all day? Giorgio Armani will celebrate the opening of his giant new Fifth Avenue flagship on February 17 — probably the biggest party this season. Diane Von Furstenberg will host her usual party for friends and family at her studio and Narciso Rodriguez will have his typically casual postshow dinner for friends, family, and editors. Matthew Williamson will also fĂȘte the opening of his first U.S. flagship, in the Meatpacking District. But all in all, this Fashion Week will be pretty quiet. Indeed, it's hard to celebrate when so many companies are laying people off. We're okay with a few fewer parties. Still, we urge the Champagne companies to still sponsor the shows themselves.

Project Runway Finalists Launch their collections to LA Retailer

Korto Momolu, the runner up from the fourth season of Bravo’s “Project Runway,” and Jerrell Scott, the third runner up, celebrated the launch of their retail collections Wednesday night in LA at Jane Doe John Doe Boutique.

The store is now selling collections from those “Runway” alums alongside pieces from Season 4 winner Leanne Marshall, and fellow contestants Stella “Leatha” Barbarella and Blayne Walsh.

AccessHollywood.com caught up with Jerrell and Korto last night to talk about the evening.

“For me, it’s my first time selling my collection, and I wanted to bring my very talented friends, like Korto, in with me,” Jerrell told Access.

“I have two stores in Little Rock that carry me, but people e-mail me, and if you want my designs, you can buy them,” Korto said. Her husband and daughter were celebrating with her in LA for the opening. “I’m a hustler,” she continued. “So call me!”

“It’s all about making it accessible though,” Jerrell continued. “We want to get our stuff out there and available to everyone.”

And judging from their opening night turnout, they should be successful. The evening was packed, with guests spilling out of the boutique onto West 3rd Street.

Chloe Mortaud Named First Black Miss France

The new Miss France, born to an African-American mother and white French father, said Sunday she wants to "advertise her country’s diversity on the world stage."
Chloe Mortaud is not the first nonwhite winner of the beauty pageant, but she is joining a growing chorus of French public figures breaking traditions by speaking openly about race.
“I want to go to people and explain to them that fear of the other is unfounded,” she told The Associated Press the day after being crowned. “I want to incarnate … today’s French diversity” at international beauty pageants.

All the King's Men

P Diddy unveiled a new billboard advertisement of himself in New York's famous Times Square - said to be the largest-ever to hang there.

Puff Daddy, Puffy, Sean Combs, Diddy, whatever you wanna call him has done it again. He is promoting his new Sean John men’s fragrance called I Am King. The scent follows his top-selling Unforgiven. The advertisement replaced the iconic Sean John ad, which showed him posing with his fist in the air.

In a statement, Combs said: "I am really proud of the new billboard and of the message that it conveys to everyone who gets to see it."
